After obtaining a Master's Degree in Painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Higher School of Arts (ARBA-ESA), Stephan Balleux is laureate of the Tapestry Foundation in Tournai before integrating the program of the Hoger Instituut Voor Schone Kunsten (HISK).

He has been the head of department professor of the painting course at ARBA-ESA since 2013.

Artist Laureate of the Jos Albert (1999), Médiatine (2002), Godecharles (2003), the Smart national scholarship (2010), the Jean&Irène Ransy Prize (2014) and more recently, the Gustave Camus Prize (2016) awarded by the Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium; he is also, in the same year, laureate of the public contract for the creation and integration of a work of art within the Boverie Museum (Liège).

His work has been exhibited many times in Belgium and abroad, in art centers, institutions, art galleries and art fairs such as Art Brussels, BE / Art Rotterdam, NL / L.A. In 2005, Harald Szeemann presented one of his works for the exhibition La Belgique visionnaire presented in Bozar, Brussels; in 2014, the monographic exhibition "La peinture et son double" at the Musée d'Ixelles presented an important selection of key works in the course of the painter's career.

Stephan Balleux's work is represented in the USA by the Patrick Painter Inc Gallery in Los Angeles. His works are today part of prestigious collections, both in Belgium and abroad.
