Clare Noonan (1982, Christchurch) is a visual artist working and living in Brussels. Clare’s work combines various formats including sculpture, photography, text, event and installation. In her practice, she is invested in modes of history telling and the mobilization of myth through objects. Working in relation to Western pictorial traditions of landscape and organization of nature, she seeks to re-access, re-experience, re-stage, identify and imagine stories dissolved by history’s narrative. Clare graduated with a BFA from Ilam School of Fine Arts, Christchurch in 2004, is an alumnus of the HISK, and has exhibited works and projects in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, France, Morocco and Aotearoa New Zealand. Her latest text work is featured in the inaugural issue of the Paris-based journal Ingmar. Beside her solo practice, Clare, together with Liz Allan, Rachel O’Neill and Marnie Slater, works as All the Cunning Stunts, a collective that looks at manifestations of queerness within contemporary pop culture.
