“Redrawing the Lines” presents works by Romanian artists Matei Bejenaru, Irina Botea Bucan and Dani Ghercă that touch upon global and unabating societal matters by reflecting on their country’s recent history. Geopolitical borders, nationalism, economics, inequity, the individual and the collective, immigration, periphery and power relations are some of the issues addressed in the group exhibition through humourous and critical approaches. While the questions tackled by the artists respond to the complexities of post-communism in Romania, the exhibition invites the audience to consider these works for their universality and to revisit them in the context of current world events such as the Ukraine War, and the rise of far-right ideologies across many countries worldwide.

“Redrawing the Lines” is curated by Daniella Géo and organised in collaboration with SwitchLab, Bucharest.

Cultural project co-financed by the Romanian Administration of the National Cultural Fund.
