A Different Path: Re-Approaching Research In And Through The Arts
(Dit programma zal in het Engels gegeven worden / This programme will be held in English)
Donderdag / Thursday 7.09.2023, 19:00 > 22:00
Beatrice Balcou and Will Holder
Through demonstrations, lectures and reading sessions in which artists introduce their own works and key texts, an unfolding reflection will take shape on how art, intellectual life, and public culture intersect. Organized by Jeremiah Day, taking advantage of HISK’s status outside of narrow academic legalisms, we open an intimate space with the potential for re-framing questions of research and art.
In the first section of the evening Beatrice Balcou will share fragments from her method in which physical form and social formation inter-weave. Part demonstration, part-reflection this presentation offers a chance to consider Balcou’s practice as a form of investigation, one unfolding in cultural space and time.
In the second section of the evening, Will Holder will produce “Our Values Make Us Different,” part 9 (rehearsal): ‘If one were to judge the possibility of emancipatory (or simply worthwhile) experience based on whether or not certain elements of it were co-opted, contaminated, backlashed, stripped of their radical import, marketed, bought and sold, one’s entire life would pass by without any felt sense of discovery, invention, expansion or escape.’ Maggie Nelson, 2021. Drawing with adapted marker pen, straightedge and compass, talk. 2023.
