The ever-popular biennial exhibition EMERGENCY is returning to the gallery for the ninth iteration of the show. The group show presents the work of emerging artists, selected from an international open call. The selection panel was tasked with the unenviable duty of choosing just 8 from over 300 artists who applied for the opportunity. The panel were: Joanne Bushnell, Director of Aspex; Helen Cammock, Artist & joint winner of Turner Prize 2019; Alessio Antoniolli, Director of Gasworks; Will Lunn, Director of Copperfield Gallery.

Emergency was established in 2003, and each edition has provided an opportunity for an artist or artist collaboration to realise a solo exhibition at the gallery. Previous solo exhibitions have included: Susan Collis (2004), Tim Machin (2007), Cathy Ward & Eric Wright (2009), Kihlberg & Henry (2011), Charlie Tweed (2013), Jim Howieson (2015), Maya Ramsay (2017) and Maggie Roberts (2019).
