An astounding opening...
1968 saw the emergence of a plethora of new forms of art that considerably expanded the field of artistic application and broke down barriers between art and everyday life. In this context, publications of all types flourished: posters, flyers, postcards, records, books, magazines, newspapers, etc. The exhibition RESISTANCE records the singularity and originality of its atypical artistic contributions that emerged at the end of the 1960s and confronts them with the dialogue that artists established with their environment.
In fact, this dialogue, which accompanies a great opening of possibilities, constitutes the basis for an enormous desire for emancipation that translated in the arts into unlimited experimentation within and beyond the traditional constraints of the art world. RESISTANCE focuses on the quality of this dialogue and on the way it affected art forms – past and current – especially through the predominance of the word, the development of so-called reproducible media, and the introduction into works of materials and content that were foreign to art.
