New Songs for Old Cities is an exhibition that brings together ideas of residence, public address and art in an urban context. Discover how the Higher Institute for Fine Arts residents reflect upon how their work can inhabit a cityscape and the potential resonance of their artistic voice. A song can populate a place, provide a narrative, create a background, ranging from delightful, critical to unbearable painful. The immaterial nature of a song allows it to come and go, stick a little longer or disappear to be rediscovered and gain new meaning along the way.
New Songs for Old Cities marks the beginning of a structural collaboration between Netwerk Aalst, HISK and Stad Aalst.
WHEN : Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January, from 1 pm till 6 pm
WHERE : Netwerk Aalst, Houtkaai 15, 9300 Aalst
RESERVATION : Send your preferred time slot to info@netwerkaalst.be
In order to guarantee a safe visit, the number of people will be limited through time slots. Every half hour a new time slot starts and gives you access for one hour. The exhibition runs until Sunday 28 February and is open from Thursday to Sunday, 1 pm till 6 pm, or by appointment via info@netwerkaalst.be.

HISK EDITION 2020
These are special times for everyone, with varying inconveniences and unprecedented changes. Getting attention for a problem is now a daily occurrence. Nevertheless, the team and the board of the HISK thought that we should not be left alone. An artist has to make art and we asked the 22 artists who are now studying at HISK. The result is indeed 22 screen prints that are sold in a limited edition. The proceeds go to the artists, because they have a very difficult time these days. The jobs for students have practically stalled. This is of course not the only reason why we have taken this initiative. Artists have a social function. They are the finger on the pulse of the crises in society. They signal things we don't notice. In this way we also contribute to the social relevance of the HISK. Something else. It is also an opportunity to collect art at a low price. Corona or no corona, this is the first edition of what should become a tradition of a HISK collection.
The HISK commissioned the artists to produce a silk screen edition of 30. They are available now for purchase in sets of 4 or 5 prints. And as a complete set containing the 22 contributions of all the artists.

HISK KRIJGT UITVALSBASIS IN BRUSSEL
