Daniella Géo, who in past years has been invited to the HISK as a visiting lecturer and jury member, brings in-depth knowledge of the institution allied to international expertise as curator. Attentive to the core questions of our time, she is engaged in fostering new possible narratives and experiences through art. <br />

Géo aims to reinvigorate the HISK’s singular model, which combines artist residency and individualized support with thorough post-graduate study in the arts, by devising a specially formulated, complimentary program of Seminars, Master Classes and Lectures to be continuously updated according to the candidate laureates’ specific characteristics, needs and expectations as developing artists. While she will continue to promote the diversity of artists and scholars that has been one of the HISK’s key strengths, Géo plans to embrace a more global art arena, expanding the institute’s relationship with the various regions. At the same time, considering Belgium’s historical and ongoing status as an influential art center - to which the HISK has made an important contribution for over 20 years - field trips and seminars will explore the richness of the Belgian art scene. Géo's overall curatorial tasks include the academic and studio-visit program, the development of exhibitions and a new series of lectures, study trips, exchange and public programs.<br />

Daniella Géo was in de voorbije jaren reeds gastdocent en jurylid bij het HISK en kent het instituut goed. Zij beschikt daarenboven over internationale expertise als curator van tentoonstellingen wereldwijd. In haar werk focust ze zich op cruciale actuele maatschappelijke problematieken. Door middel van kunst, nieuwe beschrijvingen en ervaringen met betrekking tot deze thema’s, wil zij een nieuwe narratieve context creëren en het maatschappelijk debat bevorderen. 

Het is de ambitie van Géo om een nieuwe impuls te geven aan het unieke model van het HISK, dat het aanbod van kunstenaarsresidenties en individuele begeleiding aanvult met een grondig postgraduaat studieprogramma. Zij wil dit doen a.d.h.v. een aanvullend programma van seminars, masterclasses en lezingen die afgestemd zijn op de specifieke kenmerken, noden en verwachtingen van de kandidaat-laureaten als ontwikkelende kunstenaars.

Géo zal voortbouwen op één van de belangrijkste pijlers van het HISK: een door diversiteit gekenmerkt palet aan kunstenaars en deskundigen. Haar blik richt zich op een globale kunst arena, zij zal dus de relatie die het instituut heeft met verschillende regio’s uitbreiden met meerdere gebieden. Tegelijk zullen de kandidaat-laureaten via studiereizen en siminars de rijkdom van de Belgische kunstscene kunnen exploreren. Het statuut van België als historisch en hedendaags kunstencentrum – waaraan het HISK gedurende meer dan 20 jaar een bijdrage heeft geleverd – wordt op die manier specifiek belicht. 

Géo’s takenpakket als curator van het HISK omvat het academisch programma en bezoek aan de studio’s, het uitwerken van tentoonstellingen, het organiseren van nieuwe lezingenreeksen, studiereizen, uitwisselingsprogramma’s en programma’s voor het publiek.
