This night will combine performances by Jeroen Uyttendaele en Sendai. Two acts coming from different fields of work (sound art and experimental pop), and yet create similar sound material.
Avlas is a self-built instrument that connects sound and image. The installation consists of a steel plate that reflects an image on a white wall. Besides a mirror, the steel plate is also a source of sound that vibrates through speakers. The vibration does not only produces sound but also influences the reflective image by changing the colors. During the performance image and sound are manipulated by bowing and replacing the steel plate.
Jeroen Uyttendaele (Brussels) is an artist working mostly with sound and its relation to light, space and materiality. This translates itself in the development of audio-visual instruments, installations and sound compositions. His works often explores basic properties of technology such as electricity, metal, conductive materials as the main tools for expression. He is co-founder of iiinviative (see No Patent Pending on Cctober 17).
Sendai is the collaborative experimental project by Yves De Mey (Antwerp) and Peter Van Hoesen (Berlin). Both artists are long-time friends who share a deep passion for exploring the outer limits the electronic music. This is evidenced on their own label, Archives Intérieures, which puts out an arresting array of sounds, consistently challenging the norm. Last year Sendai released their third album Ground and Figure (Editions Mego). Their sound can be defined as a vast and spacious journey through texture and tone, atmosphere and abstraction.
