Work lochk.jpg

is a group work, that has been initiated by Elizabeth Haines and Heide Hinrichs at the Final Exhibition "Barrack" in the In/Out building at the former HISK location in Antwerp 2006

The Missing Hole - An Experience

The central space was connected through a few drilled holes to the spaces around it. Standing there with the drill in your hands was an amusing pleasure. Breaking through the walls to make these rather small holes, (an arm can just fit through), immediately had an impact on perception in the space. Our intention was to give little rays of light, air and the artists' ideas a different possibility of movement. To gently alter the circulation…

But one hole is missing. And probably many more.

I will indicate the hole that basically is missing.

When you entered the space you found two holes quite close to each other on eye level to your left and also two that were more separated from each other on your right. The first one was at children's eye level and the second one was closer to the clay building and you could reach it with your hand. This was the biggest one.

One hole at the far end was covered by the refrigerator in the bar, the other was close to the entrance to the next space. Next door other holes, all kind of holes were used for making different kinds of sound. A very playful piece, where I thought the wall-hole fitted extremely well. This hole was also above eye level for most.

And you can almost imagine, because these are all holes that were made, where one hole is missing. The missing one should have been on the middle of left wall. Right where it would pass through to the other side of the wall between the light paintings of silent girls, that were finishing their party and the so-precisely-edited double projection of that melancholic man's dream.

Do you remember this specific moment of being brought into a different world of expression ? This where the hole is mainly missing.

I just wanted to let you know, that we couldn't finish the work.

There were constraints, the ones everyone is familiar with.
