Pieter Vermeulen (BE, 1983) is kunstcriticus, lector, onderzoeker en curator. Hij is momenteel verbonden aan PXL-MAD (Media, Arts & Design) in Hasselt, waar hij lesgeeft in hedendaagse kunst & theorie en de artistieke leiding verzorgt van university gallery KRIEG. Aan Sint Lucas Antwerpen doceert hij cursussen in artistiek onderzoek, kunsttheorie en zelforganisatie. Pieter is tevens actief als vaste schrijver en redacteur voor het Belgische hedendaagse kunsttijdschrift HART.
Na zijn studies in Filosofie en Culturele Studies werkte hij aan het KASK en Conservatorium in Gent (2008-2011), de Universiteit Gent - S:PAM (Studies in Performing Arts and Media) (2013-2017) en de Master of Research in Art & Design aan Sint Lucas Antwerpen (2014-2019). In die hoedanigheden modereerde en organiseerde hij verschillende internationale conferenties en onderzoeksseminaries. In 2019 was hij gastdocent aan het Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art in Berlijn.
Als curator zette Pieter tentoonstellingsprojecten op zoals Fantastic Illusions (MOCA Shanghai/Buda Kortrijk, 2009), Resonance (Bund18/World Expo 2010 - Belgisch Paviljoen, Shanghai), Uncommonplaces (Extra City Antwerpen, 2011), Façades (BE-PART Waregem, 2012), Perpetual Travellers (SAVVY Contemporary, Berlijn, 2013), Wild Horses & Trojan Dreams (Marres House for Contemporary Culture, Maastricht, 2013), The Ship of Fools (Museum of Post-Digital Cultures, 2014), The Cloud of Unknowing (La Cambre, Brussel, 2015) en Canned Laughter - Humor in Crisis (Rotterdam/Antwerpen, 2015). Vermeulen is alumnus van ICI’s Curatorial Intensive (2010) en voormalig resident bij Vessel in Italië (2011). Tussen 2013 en 2015 was hij actief als curator voor De Nieuwe Opdrachtgevers (The New Patrons), voor de professionele bemiddeling van publieke kunstopdrachten. Daarnaast is hij medeoprichter van POPPOSITIONS (off-fair in Brussel sinds 2012) en de BORG-biënnale in Antwerpen (2014-2018). Zijn artikels zijn gepubliceerd in talrijke tentoonstellingscatalogi en tijdschriften.

Pieter Vermeulen (BE, 1983) is an art critic, lecturer, researcher and curator. He is currently affiliated to PXLMAD (Media, Arts & Design faculty) in Hasselt, where he teaches contemporary art & theory and oversees the university gallery KRIEG. Additionally, he teaches courses in artistic research, art theory and self-organization at St Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp. Pieter is also active as staff writer and editor for the Belgian contemporary art magazine HART.
After his graduation in Philosophy and Cultural Studies, Vermeulen worked at the School of Arts (KASK/Conservatorium) in Ghent (2008-2011), Ghent University - S:PAM (Studies in Performing Arts and Media) (2013-2017) and the Master of Research in Art & Design at St Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp (2014-2019). In those capacities, he moderated and co-/organized several international conferences and research seminars. In 2019, he was a guest tutor at the Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art in Berlin.

Pieter Vermeulen is an alumnus of the ICI Curatorial Intensive (New York City, 2011) and former resident at Vessel (Bari, 2011). Between 2013 and 2015, Pieter worked as a curator for De Nieuwe Opdrachtgevers (The New Patrons), providing professional mediation for public art commissions. He is the co-founder of POPPOSITIONS (off-fair in Brussels since 2012) and the BORG biennial in Antwerp (2014-2018). His articles are published in numerous exhibition catalogues and magazines.
