Martin Germann is senior curator at S.M.A.K., the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent, Belgium, since autumn 2012. He organized solo shows with Raoul De Keyser, Zhang Peili, Hiwa K, Gerhard Richter, Michael E. Smith, James Welling, Nairy Baghramian, Lee Kit, Kasper Bosmans, Michael Buthe, Thomas Ruff, Jordan Wolfson and Rachel Harrison, as well as group presentations such as the two-chapter exhibition “The Photographic”, together with Tanja Boon, or “Drawing. The Bottom Line”, together with Philippe Van Cauteren. He also established an ongoing series of collection presentations, including, amongst others, a dynamic, one-year long exhibition around a wall piece by Sol LeWitt. In earlier stages he was Curator at places such as Kestner Gesellschaft Hanover or the 4th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art, where he directed the program of ‘Gagosian Gallery, Berlin’. He has published numerous exhibition catalogues and monographies, his writing has appeared in international magazines such as 032c or Frieze. For ‘Lili Dujourie: Folds in time’ he received an AICA award for Belgium’s best exhibition in 2015.
