Jonas Zakaitis is one-half of Tulips & Roses gallery (Brussels), one-third of The Federal magazine editorial team, as well as an all-too-occasional writer and curator.
"Tulips & Roses is a site for testing dialectical paradoxes, where exhibitions and artworks negotiate inquisitive and often preposterous propositions. Like Heidegger’s use of the rose, the gallery encourages a conceptual freedom, examining phenomena outside the standard objective and representational regimes. Zakaitis hints at his own subversive agenda in a press release for And Then Came Johnny, a 2008 exhibition featuring Liudvikas Buklys and Antanas Gerlikas: “The change of the world was supposed to appear as a miracle yet it merged perfectly with everyday life. Could this change also happen within the limits of an exhibition? It probably could.” (Matthew Post, Kaleidoscope magazine, September - October Issue, 2009)
The Federal [www.the-federal.com] is an artwork reader, a periodical magazine hinged on a single artwork per issue with some new writings revolving around it. Right now it seems that it's grasping at some kind of non-disciplinary knowledge.
