Harlan Levey Projects, 46 Jean d’Ardenne Straat, 1050 Brussel (BE)
Opening: 2016/02/26 17:30
Ella Littwitz, Benjamin Verhoeven, Emmanuel Van der Auwera
What role does synergy play in contemporary practice? Beyond beauty and sublimation, good art creates movements of knowledge, potential, resistance, revolt and emotion. “Do You Speak Synergy” exhibits the trans-disciplinary nature and impact of contemporary art. In doing so, it makes statements about the role of a contemporary art gallery in protecting a place for poetry, failure and the benefits of absurdity, demonstrating that art can pose a valuable hypothesis as easily as it can deconstruct consensual order and reframe what we thought we knew or know, but cannot articulate.
Four projects from four Belgian based artists will be exhibited. Haseeb Ahmed’s award winning work “Fish Bone Chapel” will be on view for the first time in Brussels, as will works from recent HISK graduates Emmanuel van der Auwera (“Cabinet d’Affects”), Ella Littwitz (“Uproot”) and Benjamin Verhoeven (“Sculptural Movement”).
The Brain and Emotion laboratory (University of Maastricht), led by Dr. Beatrice de Gelder supports the exhibition, which builds on an earlier show in the gallery titled “Public Data Explorer.”
The exhibition is curated by Denis Maksimov with the support of Harlan Levey. The limited edition catalogue of the exhibition, co-written by them, will be launched at the event.
