The concierge serves guests. In the 18th century he was appointed by the king to maintain order. The concierge often has a small apartment on the ground floor - la loge - where he is able to monitor all comings and goings. The French word ’concierge’ is related to the Latin word ’conservus’: fellow slave.
Carola Mücke, Niklaus Ruëgg and Colin Waeghe met at the HISK (Higher Institute for Fine Arts) in Ghent. Five years after their ’graduation’ they decided to meet again in Berlin.
In the former caretaker’s apartment they display their recovered encounter and their individual (in)differences, a micro amicable convention of 3 European artists/concierges. Each of them responsible for maintaining the lighting and cleanliness of palaces.
