What appears at first sight to be a possible insult, turns out to be the reconstruction of a biographic note. Flemish Bastard is one of the four names of a Mohawk chief. The name of this 17th century Métis with a Dutch father and an Indian mother, changes depending on who is talking to him: his own people -a branch from the Irokanian Indian nation- or the different English, French and Dutch colonialists involved in the conquest of the "New World". This relatively unknown figure emerges simultaneously as a generic and multiple personality. His sudden appearance during an event on the night before an important Belgian election day with severe communitarian consequences, evokes the culturalisation of identity and the annexation of language in every society.
